Mama Llama Considers Sulani

TY soo much EA Game Changers!

This last Sunday I was privileged to be a part of a group of game changers who had accepted an opportunity to participate in a private live stream.

SimGuruJill, SimGuruMorgan, SimGuru Lyndsay and SimGuruGeoff gave us a mini private tour of Island living.  SimguruFrost, SimguruNinja and SimguruSteve guided and directed us in the Discord.

Wonderful job Gurus, thank you!

They also answered many of our questions and now I get to share what I remember with you.

I will do the best that I can.

I was so busy concentrating on watching the screen while I was writing and now I see my 5 pages of notes are written in hieroglyphics.

I will confess to you that I am probably not the best one to come to for an unbiased opinion about this EP.

For a couple of good reasons!

First off, I am an itinerant hippie beach bum in my heart.  There’s not much I like better than sand in my bathing suit and salt water to dip my toes into.  If I can be in a place where walking around in a sarong and flip flops is preferred attire I am the happiest woman on the planet.

Second, when Island Paradise came out for Sims 3 that was all she wrote for me!  I moved my family to Sunlit tides (I couldn’t get IP to work) and I never left there (unless I was going on a WA vaca)!

Third, hello Mermaids! I adore the supernatural … we are getting closer and closer to fairies all the time. TS4_EP07_SECONDARY_ART_01_008_1k_FLAT

So, with all that in mind, you prob think I was jazzed when I first heard about the possibility of a tropical pack!

Actually, I was totally unconvinced. I thought perhaps it was far too small for all the huge hype that had been happening in the simmer community.

The free base game followed by the huge sale screamed BIG news.  In my (humble of course) opinion it (the hype) was too big for something like an Island world.

Embarrassingly, I even said that in places I wish I hadn’t.

A tropical pack was far too small for all the buzz.

Could I have been more wrong?

Eek, crow is a nasty morsel to eat!

crow

Thomas Jefferson said, “if you have to eat crow, eat it while it is young and tender.”

So here I go  … yum …

I was so WRONG!

This pack is not only a HUGE accomplishment by our Gurus BUT it is amazing to boot!

I was thrilled with everything I saw.

If it is ok with you guys, I will share with you some of my remembrances.

I have been struggling with finding a balance between too much said and not enough said.

I will try to keep it light and short but hopefully, still give you a nice taste of Island Living.

I also invite you to post questions you might have on my FB page, Twitter, Tumbler or here on the blog.  If I know the answer I will give it or I will try to find it.

One of the things that charms me the most about island culture (other than Island time which I love because I’m always late) is their dedication to Ohana or family.

In Ohanaly Town (please be right) EA has captured that that important aspect of island culture.  In just a few minutes on the screen, I got a sense of the delightful togetherness and celebration that knits island families and communities together.

With beaches, festivals and a laid back lifestyle, I am certain that this will be a marvelous place for our simmies to live.

TS4_EP07_OFFICIAL_SCREEN_03_002_1080

Most of you have probably already heard that there will be three neighborhoods and 14 lots.

One of the neighborhoods is a high-end resort type.

I will be honest, I do not remember much from that one

Other than it was quite posh and many thought it would be more amenable to modern builds!

TS4_EP07_OFFICIAL_SCREEN_04_002_1080

The third is a natural environment for your off the grid types.

This to me looks quite intriguing (and inviting).

This is the best place to practice your (new) conservation career.  I imagine they use trash spawners and there will be junk or treasure in the piles.  I do know some of it can be edible for you hardcore “off the grid”ers (yeah, I know that is not a word).

Apparently, with neglect, the islands can fall into a sad state.   I do not know if this is reversible or if it can be turned off.

While I am on new careers, there is a new fishing career (sustainably sourced of course)  and new lifeguard career (yes teens can hold that one).  I think there may have been one more but I cannot remember.

I love that it also has an active volcano. It’s quite cool (well actually very hot but hey you get my drift).  It shoots out lava bombs that are quite fiery when they land. DO NOT TOUCH! But if you let them cool they can either be opened for hidden treasure or saved as a decorative object. SO AWESOME!

Another amazing thing about this area is the waterfall!  Fun to play in (watch out for little frogs) and you can shower in it …

BUT the best new feature is the waterfall woohoo!

Of course one of the biggest additions, that we’ve all been waiting for, is the ability to swim in the ocean. Simguru Lindsay said that it is only in Sulani for now but they have not closed the door to retrofitting the other worlds to allow swimming lots.

I was very excited to see all the different types of marine life.

Most of you have heard about the Dolphins already.  There are three types of dolphins and you can befriend them.

I do believe I am remembering correctly that not all dolphins are friendly and that some may be more of a challenge to befriend.

If you have fish in your inventory you can feed them with your fish.

I am fascinated by the sea turtles.  I cannot wait to see how they behave in the ocean environment.

There are also new types of fish and I know there’s a few of you that are gonna be really happy about this because I was …

                                        SHARKS!

I’m not sure how everything interacts with them because we only had a few minutes and I was too busy being excited about the sharks to catch much about them other than the Gurus said get out of the water LOL

OH, BTW when you swim in the ocean you do gain hygiene (sorry that was random but I did not want to forget).

One of the biggest additions to the water world is the mermaids.

I watched it with fascination but I didn’t really get a whole lot down on paper.

Like how they became mermaid … I am pretty sure it was just in CAS.

They do have powers but again I forgot to write because I was looking!

I found it hilarious that you can have an evil mermaid or a good mermaid or a neutral mermaid.
If you’re an evil mermaid you can’t do good things,
if you’re a good mermaid you can’t do evil things,
but if your neutral mermaid they have all the powers and they can do it all.
I would be a neutral mermaid #keepmyoptionsopen

The Steamy Mer-kiss will be fun to explore!

They have also have different motives ( hydration motive)

Hmm, I wrote down “tu tais” under Mermaids … with an exclamation mark. No clue on how to “translate” but whatever it was it was awesome!

Some more interesting things about swimming in the ocean:

Snorkeling dive buoys

 The watercraft

New floats .. that actually drift

I had to crack up at one point they were talking about one of the floats that looks like a pizza and Simguru Geoff said, “it is pizza with everything on it, including your sim.”

(I had to share) I can appreciate that because I too often channel my inner Zest. I love that kind of humor!

✮✮✮✮✮ ❤ ✮✮✮✮✮

Where there is the ocean, there are beaches with all that comes with it.

Sandcastles

Real lounge chairs that you can relax on!

Beach towels you can lay on

Tanning (and burning).  The tan is intelligent (correct tan lines for clothing)

Tanning is affected by Seasons (and you can tan in any world)

There is a funny tanning prank available to the more mischievous.

A lounge chair and nude bars (I think it is a lot trait – there were a number of lot traits but I cannot remember them) will go out to everyone in an update.

✮✮✮✮✮ ❤ ✮✮✮✮✮

I love to garden in both real-life and in the sims so I am always excited over new harvestables.

I hope this is correct – I think we are getting pineapple, taro, coconut, and kava.

I am curious about the seasonal effect in this very different growing climate.

✮✮✮✮✮ ❤ ✮✮✮✮✮

Since I am at the point of wandering around, I will spare you all further chatter and sign out of this ‘little” sneak peek.

I will be anxiously waiting for  June 21st (not sure how I will make it that long) ❤

For my regular readers be on the lookout for my castaways.  Mike, Rose and the rest of their Ohana will def be enjoying the new pack

Poor Bruno bumped again!  Oh well, Realm of Magic is coming and that is his world …. fairies …  fairies … fairies … fairies … fairies … fairies … oh pardon … I was just wishing for fairies.

  1. When I saw this was the next pack I immediately thought of Mike and Rose and how much this will enrich the story in terms of what you’ll be able to do without relying on Mods, cc and poses. I’m so excited to see how you encorporate it into their tale. (or am I just missing reading about them)

Great sneak peek, Lots of Info. Thanks for sharing with us ❤

  2. Great review! Now this is a pack worth getting. I can’t wait! It will be a delayed birthday gift from my husband – he said he would get it for me so I am so happy! This sounds like such a fantastic pack. I never did play mermaids in Sims 3 as I didn’t have that pack, so this will be a first. And they have jet skis! Woot! I really want to explore that off-the-grid world with the volcano and waterfall.

  3. I really enjoyed your humor in your review, Lol. I’m looking forward to using this pack. From everything I have seen and read so far, I already know this world will become a favorite of mine for my games.
There is a small problem for me though… I have such a phobia of frogs and sharks and they are both in this pack! EEEK!
