Rules or special considerations:

This is a forum based challenge.  In the spirit of that please keep your entries FAMILY FRIENDLY and safe for work.  This means NO adult mods, NO adult themes, and NO language.  If you feel that language is an integral part of your story feel free to either use the word “plum” or redact it “S**T.”   Some of you may feel very restricted by this but let me remind you that this will go out across all social media platforms and we cannot control who might see it when.

This is an international competition and some will be writing in their second language so BE KIND!

You can write as many short stories as you wish but only one can be entered for the challenge vote.

Reminder:

  • Participants ARE ALLOWED – even encouraged to let their readers know that they are participating in the challenge …  growing our skills AND our community IS the POINT of all of this.
  • BUT here is the caveat, their readers MUST read all entries and vote in accordance with instructions.  This instruction must be CLEARLY stated by the participant when their readers are informed.
  • Readers will be asked to vote for their top 3 choices in both categories (6 votes total).
  • Any vote received that does not contain 3 votes for each category will be thrown out.
  • I assure you that I will diligently watch this. NO ONE will be unfairly targeted, bullied or shunned.

  1. Do mermaids and vampires count as magic? Or is the theme restricted to witches and fairies, or maybe elves? If not, I’ve got the seeds of an idea…

    1. I would say that I guess that’s how they would be interpreted by you. I could see mermaids having a lot of magical application. The theme can be widely applied that’s for sure. It’s your story tell it how you dream it.

  2. I didn’t even realize there was a SimLit community (or at least I don’t think I did). I saw Mena’s post about winning last month’s competition and I was really interested in learning more. I’m not even sure I would qualify myself as a novice writer, but I have dabbled a bit over the years with poetry and short stories. I think I’m going to give this a go. Thanks for creating opportunities for creativity and growth!

    1. It is fine to start off as a novice and “feel your way” into the the nest step 🙂 It is a fab place to connect and grow your reading audience too … a few of the vets (myself included) share you all out to our reading audiences too … Mena is dong such a fab job with getting her feet wet and with promo (there in is the key) and it shows 🙂

    2. Reading this makes me so happy. I’m glad that my post appearing on your timeline had perfect timing and I look forward to reading your story! I have @lisabeesims to thank for being that person for me. It’s scary to put your inner thoughts on public display, but so rewarding too! Welcome to the ‘club’!

      1. Agreed … Writing is a very vulnerable thing to do. I often feel like it’s opening up a part of me to let the world see but all the while wanting to guard it though!

  3. I do have an entry this month. The title is “A HarvestFest Wish.” I can’t post links on the forum but did make a comment. My blog is ShelliSims but am Hogger9400 on the forum (or something like that since I used hubby’s ID and am still waiting to hear back on how to change my username, but since it’s been months, I don’t know if I ever will.) Thanks!
