A Short Story: Magic Mike

Mike sat straight up in bed, abruptly awakened by a very bizarre dream.

Jostling Rose, he whispered loudly, “Ipo (sweetheart), wake up!  I had the most curious dream.”

Rubbing her eyes into focus, Rose sat up and listened intently as her dear hubby began to recount his mysterious dream.

Her heart was deeply concerned for him.

Mike had been under a lot of stress lately.

The move to Sualni was wonderful,

for the most part anyway!

In order to purchase their new home, they had sold some of the gems that had been collected for Dagon’s tribute.**

They had hoped to quickly recover the gems but Mike soon discovered that Sulani has very limited gemstone resources and some of the gemstone resources are not good to wish to encounter (uhh .. Lava bombs).

Mike had gone to the center of the island to see Dagon.  He wanted to plead their case and to beseech Dagon to consider sending them home without fulfilling the required 100 gemstone tribute.

Mercy is not Dagon’s strong suit.

Mike’s pleas fell on deaf ears.  (Does Dagon even have ears? I Dunno!)

There would be no compromise … 100 gemstones and that was final!

“I was sound asleep,” Mike went on.

“When I heard the song of the island spirits beacon me to come.

I went to them and found myself enveloped in a serene blue light.

The feeling was exhilarating.

They whispered blessings to me and all of a sudden …

I was transported to a lovely beach.

Two island natives, I think they were Menehune,” he leaned in to whisper cautiously,

“who showed me to a very strange tree.

They urged me to enter and I do not know why, BUT I DID.

Once inside, I began to fall.

I fell deeper and deeper into the center of the tree.

At the bottom, I found myself the midst of a most unusual glade.

I have never seen such a place.

It was so beautiful.

The very air tingled magic.

There in the middle of the glade was another tree.

I could feel the island spirits urging me to enter and so again, I do not know why but I went in.

I felt my way around inside of the tree.

It was pitch black and I could not see anything.

Not even the entrance that I had just passed thru.

What felt like a long time passed and

just when I feared I would never find my way out, I was back in the glade and all around me lay bright gemstones for Dagon’s tribute.

Then I woke up!

OH BOY!

What a dream!

Must have been those spicy fish tacos I had for dinner last night!

I am so glad that is over!”
