Please note that I have changed the blogging format for the challenge.
It is now all in an easy to find “One-stop shopping” Update.
Part 1 of this blog will present the upcoming monthly theme, banner links and challenge specifics for the month.
Part 2 will contain links to the previous month’s submissions and a link to vote in each category (veteran or novice). After the vote closes an update to this blog post will be made to announce the winners in each category.

Monthly SimLit Short Story Challenge – Announcement & Info
Part one – New Theme:
January 2020
THEME:
To celebrate the new year and the new decade I am wanting to do a NEW thing.
How about a little exercise in cooperative creativity?
A writing collab of sorts, if you will.
A new story for all of us that will cross blog-lines and will grow us past the comfort of our well worn creative paths.
First, this month, create a character.
A brand new one.
Any kind you want but try to push past your comfort zone.
Stretch a bit outside of your norm BUT please outside of your established stories.
In your story, introduce us to your character and their backstory.
Using 1st or 3rd person, tell us what we need to know about them.
Brainstorm it out with ideas like (but not limited to) …
What are their strengths or weaknesses
Character traits
Are they a classic archetype
What is their greatest desire
Where do they live
Where do they work
Where do they come from
or where ever you want your backstory to go.
I cannot wait to meet them!

Interesting theme! So if I’m understanding this correctly, I have to write the backstory of a character and upload them to the Gallery, which another writer will use to write a new story?

Hi, hi! Sounds cool! I have a few questions, too, like Divan. Are we to write about our character or are we to download a character created by another for this project and write our story about them?

The first one we’re going to do is our own protagonist. I think I’m going to sit down tonight and do a pie exclamation of the vision of this challenge. I was trying to keep the lookahead kind of secret but it may have caused too much confusion

Great idea! I am going to do what I so often do and say “I am inspired. I am going to try to do this”, but then I don’t. Well, I have good intentions and I will see if I can because I am aching for some creativity in my life these days and I miss all of this. And… I am off to read and vote.

Aw, thank you! Things just got too crazy at work before the end of the year, sadly.

Oh dear, lol 😂 I’ve missed a few months. Still getting the hang of writing instead of keeping the stories in my head.

January Theme likes a good one. I love backstories. Of course, we’re on overtime all next week, but, I might give this a go. Crossing my fingers that I can do this. 🙂
