Monthly Simlit Short Story Challenge
Our theme for August is …
The village of Henford-on-Bagley is under siege.
There is one who holds the villagers in her clutches …
clutch …
clutch purse …
Please .. someone stop me before I go too far!
There is one who brings terror from Finchwick to the Bramblewood.
She can be seen marching for her cause thru the lanes and over the hills.
Her pointy finger ready to wag!
Her handbag ready to swing!
Weddings are ruined.
Brides weep in her wake.
First kisses interrupted.
Lovers quake as their secret rendezvous are exposed.
Even the husband who pecks his wife on the cheek during a quiet picnic is assailed.
It is mayhem!
No one is safe from the ever vigilant Crumplebottom-a-nator.
NO ONE.
The towns folk desperately wants something done about it.
They feel that someone needs to distract her somehow.
Maybe she could fall in love and that would show her how wonderful love can be!
Then she would understand and relent.
Put her fury away!
But who could accomplish such a feat of bravery?
Many have tried …
ALL have failed!
Enter our unlikely hero.
The kindly Aubra Gene.
AKA Aubie.
Gentle caretaker of all types of critters.
Everything from Bessie (his cow) to even the most belligerent of bunny thrives under his watchful care.
He has heard tales of this formidable woman
but he was not afraid.
She only needs a friend, he thought to himself.
I will be her friend first and if love comes to us
then c’est la vie!
The residents were so happy that he was willing to try to befriend her.
This genial man gave them high hopes that romance would come to their village again!
Aubra looked to see her coming down the street,
“Oh belle dame,” he whispered admiringly,
“she is a handsome sturdy woman.”
“Halloo,” he cheerfully greeted her.
Mrs. Crumplebottom eyeballed him suspiciously.
Her cold words cut like a knife, “And who might you be?”
“Aubra Gene at your service madam,” he said with a small proper bow.
She did not seem to be impressed.
His quick apology opened the door for a little tête-à-tête on a nearby bench.
He learned very quickly that it was NOT a good idea to attempt to calm her down!
Aubra patiently persisted thru out the day.
He gently proffered friendly chit chat and light-hearted banter.
Seeking any common ground with Agnes.
Well ….
He finally gave up and went fishing!
“Now, dear simmer, you really did not think I would be won THAT easily …
Did you?”

For some reason, I haven’t been getting your notifications, and I have missed a whole bunch. I am so, so sorry for not reading and responding to your wonderful simlit sooner. I downloaded dear Aubra from the gallery and thought he was sweet. But even sweet Aubra can’t turn that nasty old Mrs. Crumplebottom. lol They should start talking about gardening, since she has a garden shop…maybe win her over by admiring his oversized crops. lol Great story 🙂

Aw, Aubra getting all flustered and embarrassed made me laugh. In a “I feel you” kind of way. Maybe her neighbors should try to get her a bunch of cats. The cat lady doesn’t have time to be a terror. (Knowing Crumplebottom, she’d scare the cats away, too!)

This is brilliant. I adore Aubra, I’m glad he is back to life after I accidentally killed him with too much woo hoo in the bushes. But seriously, the images are perfection. His expressions are priceless and her thumbs down made me laugh out loud for real. I love how you bring characters to life.
